$12500 Monterey record

The annual Monterey Murray Grey and Angus sale is renowned for the exceptional offering of quality bulls put forward to buyers, making it one of the State's most prestigious fixtures on the sale calendar.
This year was no exception. An outstanding female stole the limelight, taking the top price glory from her male counterparts at $12500 in record breaking fashion.
When the hammer went down, to a round of applause, it marked a record price for a Monterey Stud cow, a WA record for a Murray Grey cow and is also believed to be a national breed record for an open cow sold for flushing.
The 11 year old silver-grey cow, Monterey Miss Magnolia S90, was not only a head turner because of her visual outlook, style, femininity and breedplan figures, she also had an impressive family tree which included her son Monterey Stratosphere, who is Monterey's current top sire.
The big, smooth, roomy, structurally correct matron was sired by Monterey Tremendous P70 and out of Monterey Magnolia 3rd M73, and her grandson was last year's top priced bull, selling for $22,000.
Among her impressive list of EBV's were 200, 400 and 600 day weights of +35, +55 and +69 as well as an EMA value of +2.4 and a mature cow weight of+63.
It was no surprise that Miss Magnolia went the way of stud interests with last year's top price buyers Raymond Park securing her after a drawn out bidding campaign with Landmark Margaret River agent Jock Embry, who was on the phone on behalf of Doug Graham, Arcadia Murray Grey Stud, Glen Iris, Victoria.

Despite the large catalogue of bulls it didn't take long before the top price of the bull catalogue was set when a proud looking sire stepped into the ring in lot three. Monterey Blockbuster B75 was certainly a show stopper with his sirey appeal and high growth rates.
Bidders were keen to snap up the grey bull, who was sashed as the junior and grand champion Murray Grey at last year's Perth Royal Show, pushing prices from the first call at $7000.
In the end it was Donald Monley, Jomal Glen Murray Grey stud, Toodyay, who collected the $10,000 son of Monterey Stratosphere. The April 2006 born 828kg sire had a +7 frame score, 42cm scrotal measurement and 117cm2 raw EMA figure.
Blockbuster had tremendous weight for age with +37, +54, and +71 for 200, 400 and 600 day growth, +41 carcase weight, +1.3 EMA, and+0.9 retail beef yield.
